Artist Statement
My art is guided by personal truths; I create dance driven by life and living. The intention behind my work is real, genuine, intimate, and humble. I see dance as a way to explore what it means to be mortal inside of the fascinating whole that is the universe and beyond. Dance allows me to live in the moment, much like meditation. I treasure the process of creating, experiencing, choreographing, and value collaboration. My family, friends, students, and the Art and Yoga community rejuvenate me and give me strength. My choreography articulates organic communication through the indulgence of simplicity. I am fond of play and find experimentation and risk taking alluring. I am interested in stripping away conventions, pride, vanity, and normality in dance; I shy away from stereotypical perceptions. Dance set to music to entertain a crowd is not as interesting to me as dance that is created as a work of art that people may relate to. I still cherish all forms of dance and appreciate being a guest in many cultures that are not my own. Learning, moving, exploring, and sharing are concepts that dissolve the ego, therefore I try to embody these as I create. I believe dance is for everyone.
